Thames Barrier annual test closure to go ahead on 3 June

This year’s annual Thames Barrier test closure will coincide with the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. The annual closure will take place on Sunday 3 June, when the river will be closed to normal navigation to permit a flotilla of 1,000 vessels to travel along the Thames in celebration of The Queen’s 60-year reign. The Barrier closes each month as a test to ensure that it is functioning properly, but once a year, a full test closure is performed over a high tide.
